Toyota Hiace: Overview
First released more than 40 years ago, the Toyota HiAce remains a popular vehicle. Over the decades, it’s been available in a wide range of different configurations, including vans, minivans, pick-ups and ambulances.
History of the HiAce
The HiAce was initially launched in 1967 as a commuter vehicle, cab-over pick-up and a delivery van. There was also a camper van model, called the HiAce Commercial. A second generation became available in 1977, when a 2.2 litre diesel engine was offered alongside the petrol engine in certain markets. This version also offered a more streamlined cab.
In 1982, the third generation appeared, offering a range of wheelbase specifications. The Toyota Mobile Lounge, based on the HiAce, also became available in 1887. The fourth generation was launched in 1989 and it featured a range of wheelbases and engines, from 2 litre petrol engines to 3 litre turbo diesel engines.
The HiAce today
2004 saw the release of the fourth generation of HiAce vehicles, which are still in production today. Available in a range of configurations, the HiAce tends to be used in a commercial setting, either as part of a fleet or to service small businesses or large corporations individually.
