Buying a brand new or used car can be an expensive undertaking, especially for those who have champagne taste. Luckily, you don’t have to settle for an inferior vehicle when you do your research and preparation. Here are five tips for buying a big car without breaking the bank.
1 – Know the Price
Looking up the recommended sale price for the certain type and make of car you’re thinking of buying will ensure you don’t get swindled by dodgy dealers. This can be even more important when buying a used car, as prices will vary considerably depending on the age and condition of vehicles.
2 – Haggle
Even if you’re offered a fair price from the beginning, most car dealers will expect you to haggle. Reading tips online or speaking to people you know who’ve bought a new car recently could make you more confident in this skill.
3 – Attitude
Displaying too much enthusiasm from the onset could give car dealers the upper hand. Being armed with thorough market research and adopting a poker face will make sellers work harder to meet you in the middle on your asking price.
4 – Timing
Cars typically sell for less towards the end of the year before the next model is released, as long as you’re happy buying a car that’s almost a year old.
5 – Finance
Using a large asset as collateral, such as the car itself, will usually lead to a better deal on car loans.

The Toyota Prius was a landmark model for the hybrid industry and continues to lead the way in environmentally friendly driving. The new Toyota Prius C offers greater affordability among other features to set it apart from the other Prius models available.
Fuel Economy
One of the most important criteria to customers shopping for a Prius, the entry level C model offers an estimated 50 miles per gallon combined, comparable to the standard Prius at 51 mpg, although particularly impressive for a subcompact hatchback.
Performance
The nimble and lightweight Prius C is more agile than the larger Prius due to its smaller size, though the turning radius is increased due to the presence of 16-inch wheels. A 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine produces 73 horsepower in the Prius C, with an additional 60 hp being provided by the electric motor and generator, a similar powertrain to the standard Prius on a smaller scale.
Options
The Prius C is intended as an entry level car and is less versatile than the standard Prius when it comes to options and extras, though there are still four trim levels available to suit drivers of different budgets, numbered One to Four. All models of the Prius C are less accommodating to tall back seat passengers than the standard Prius, but make up for it through discounted prices and responsiveness on the road.

Toyota vehicles are renowned for their cutting-edge safety features, and a new collaboration between Toyota Australia and a not-for-profit organisation is aiming to make the country’s roads even safer by instructing high school students on the basics of road safety.
RYDA Program
This joint program between Toyota Australia and Road Safety Education Limited (RSE) involves a full day of practical and theoretical training in various aspects of road safety, including how to avoid and minimise the impacts of collisions. The program is available for students aged 17 and 18; the age when many young people start driving and a crucial time to instil awareness of risk avoidance and management.
Toyota’s commitment to improving road safety is also strongly evident in the safety features that debut in new models year after year.
Road Crash Statistics
More young people are involved in crashes on average than any other age group, which is why it’s important to offer as much training as possible to these vulnerable drivers.
The RYDA program is designed to reach as many students as possible nationwide, with 45,000 students expected to go through the program this year, an increase on previous years. RSE has received $300,000 in funding from Toyota Australia, which is being put towards increasing school participation and investing in training equipment.
